
Kenneth (Ken) Albert Howell - 88 of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away in his sleep on February 26, 2011 at the Adelaide Respite Inn, Waverley, Nova Scotia. Ken was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 14, 1922 to the late Sydney and Agnes (Whare) Howell. Ken served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 2 years during the Second World War and after his discharge he obtained his Journeyman Plumbers certificate. He worked in the plumbing and heating industry for most of his working life including maintenance work at the Nova Scotia Rehab and VG hospitals, from where he retired in 1987. Ken enjoyed many outdoor activities including hiking, biking and swimming. He loved to travel to the warmer climates especially his many trips to Florida. His hobbies included woodworking with hand tools, refurbishing his early 1950’s Chevy half-ton pickup truck, and in his later years, tending to his beloved cat, Rascal. Besides his parents Ken was predeceased by his sister Joyce Johnston and his brother Bruce. Ken is survived by his wife Helen Howell (Murphy) of Halifax, step sons David (Anne) Murphy and Glenn (Faye) Murphy of Dartmouth, step daughters Faye (John) Morley of Halifax and Dale (Roger) Mott of Rothesay, New Brunswick, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brother-in-law Irvin (Bud) Johnston, neice Pamela (Douglas) Briand both of Halifax and nephews Michael (Lynn) Johnston of Waterloo, Ontario and Kenneth (Bella) of Calgary, Alberta and their families. As per Ken’s requests there will be no visitation or services and he has been cremated with his remains to be buried with his parents at Camphill cemetery with a family interment service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Bide Awhile animal shelter. The family wish to thank the staff at the Abbey Lane hospital (9 Lane) and the Adelaide Respite Inn for the loving care they provided to Ken over the last several months of his life.
