

Laurice (Azar) Salloum, 86, passed away peacefully at home. September 14, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born December 12, 1926 in Lebanon to the late Nicholas and Nabiha Azar. She was the third oldest in a family of nine children. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Elias (Maggie) Azar, Zaki (Mary) Azar, Fouad (Rashika) Azar, and her sister, Zahia Azar. She is survived by her four sisters, Zakia Azar, Olga (George) Baddour, Nadia (Anees) Galaliini, and Therese (Mohsen) Salloum.
After the passing away of her husband, Salim Salloum in February 1972, Laurice moved to Halifax, Canada in October of that year with all of her family. She was a dedicated Mother and was integral in assisting her young children in their new life in Canada. She proudly watched her children develop into the successful entrepreneurs that they have become today.
Laurice is survived by her six children, Abraham (Marie) Salloum, Mary (Halim) Laba, Violette (George) Karaan, Antoine (Claudia) Salloum, Eva (George) Sayde, and Hala (Elias) Nahas. She is also survived by her 23 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Sunday, 15 September from 7pm-9pm, and Monday, 16 September from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Antonios Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2455 Windsor St., Halifax, on Tuesday, 17 September at 11am with Archpriest Maximos Saikali officiating. Burial to follow at St. Antonios Antiochian Orthodox Church cemetery in Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the new project “St. Antonios Antiochian Orthodox Church Building Fund”.
