It is with great sadness that we, the family of Leslie “Skip” Lawrence Ferguson, regret to announce his passing on Thursday, June 25th at the QEII Hospital in Halifax, NS, at the age of 71 years. Les was born in Prescott, Ontario, the son of the late Harry and Edrie (Dean) Ferguson and lived his retirement years in Halifax. He is survived by Jessie, his soul mate, guardian angel and loving wife of 45 years and his amazing and devoted children, Erika and Dean (Claire). He was the proud grandfather of Sam and Jude, both of whom caused his face to light up with love and joy and two grandcats whom he loved dearly. Also surviving his passing are brothers, Kenneth (Barb), Bob, John (Kathleen), Thomas (Brenda), Rick (Debbie) and sisters, Elaine (Ronald), Janice (Richard) and Bonnie. He was predeceased by brothers, Donnie, Perry, and sisters, Lois, Carol, and Joan. Also left to mourn his passing are his MacDonald and Australian families, who loved him dearly and will miss him very much.
The career path that Les chose in Instrumentation and Construction Design allowed him to enjoy forty fruitful years working in Petro Chemical Plants in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and as far away as Liberia. Les truly loved his work, so much so, that the bigger the challenge and complex the problem, the more pleasure and excitement it gave him. There never seemed to be anything work related that could stump him when he put his mind to it.
His creative imagination, skilled storytelling and quick wit will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be remembered as a gentle, kind and loving soul whose determination to survive several life threatening events so courageously brought him the admiration of many. Les so much enjoyed helping people and often shared his knowledge and expertise in any way that he could. When he did become involved in a project, everyone knew that it was a good idea to stand back and not try and keep up with him as his mind and his energy always had him ten steps ahead.
In his younger years, Les often become involved in many sporting activities that would give both himself and Jessie the opportunity to share great times with their family and friends. Later on in life, as physical limitations curtailed his many activities, Les put his boundless energy into supporting the Toronto Blue Jays, his favourite sports team. He also loved to play cribbage with anyone who would be foolhardy enough to challenge him to a game and, in his own right, be became a master Sudoku champion.
