

It is with great sadness that the family of Lloyd Augustus Forward announce his peaceful passing on December 6, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Carbonear, NL on May 23, 1937, to Augustus and Bertha Forward, Lloyd dedicated his life to service, family, and country.
Lloyd proudly served the people of Canada for 50 years. His career began in 1954 with Federal Fisheries as a Research Technician for three and a half years. In January 1958, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving as an Officer and Aircrew Navigator. His postings took him across the country and included: 1958-1960: Officer and Aircrew Training in London, ON, Winnipeg, MB, and Summerside, PE. 1960–63: Anti-Submarine Aircraft operations off the coast of Canada Aveo Lancaster aircraft, Comox, BC; 1963–65: Air Radar & Radio Officer, Beaverlodge, AB; 1965–67: Aircrew Radio Officer, Argus Aircraft; 1967–69: Liaison Officer with the U.S. Navy, Argentia, NL; 1969: Training as a Long-Range Navigator with Air Transport Group, Winnipeg, MB and Summerside, PE; 1969–73: Air Navigator, Search & Rescue Squadron, Summerside, PE; 1973–77: Air Navigator with 437 Squadron, Boeing Aircraft, specializing in VIP Operations and Air-to-Air Refueling, Trenton, ON; 1977–79: Air Navigator Instructor with 426 Squadron, Trenton, ON; 1979–82: Canadian Armed Forces Recruiting Centre; promoted to Major in 1980 and assumed Command of the Center until his retirement from the RCAF in 1982 in St. John’s, NL. During his 24.5 years in the RCAF, Lloyd flew in ten different aircraft and helicopters and made five round-the-world trips, resupplying Canadian embassies abroad. He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977 in recognition of his dedicated service.
After retiring from the RCAF in 1982, Lloyd continued his public service with the Federal Canadian Public Service, holding positions in Clarenville NL; Rocky Harbour, NL; Labrador City, NL, Summerside, PE and Charlottetown, PE. He ultimately served as Director of Old Age Security and Canada Pension Programs in Prince Edward Island. He received the Support People Award from HRDC in 1999, and in 2002 was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal. Lloyd retired fully in 2003.
In retirement, Lloyd was an avid golfer and bridge player. In 2004, he moved to Halifax, NS to be closer to family. Over the span of his career, Lloyd and his family moved more than 26 times from coast to coast.
Lloyd will be forever remembered by his wife, Joan (Chamberlain) Forward; his children John (Sherrie Mosher), Susan (Robert Stilwell), and Sandra (Sean Warner); his brother Wendel; sisters Georgina and Phyllis; grandchildren Johnathon (Allison) Forward, Joseph (Omm) Stilwell, Benjamin (Rebecca) Stilwell, and Samuel (Sarah) Stilwell; and great-grandchildren Finnegan, Miranda, Oliver, Elliott, and Barrett. He is also lovingly remembered by stepchildren Paula Dobson (Philip McNeil), Susan (Mike) Meeds, and Arthur (Alicia) Chamberlain, along with many other relatives and friends.
Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Augustus and Bertha Forward; his wife of 61 years, Shirley (Elliott) Forward; his granddaughter Amanda Forward; and siblings Barbara (Carl) Penney, Robert (Shirley) Forward, and Rose (Willis) Warren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lloyd’s memory to Pancreatic Cancer Canada, the Royal Canadian Legion, VETS Canada, the Canadian Veterans Services Society, or Diabetes Canada.
Cremation has taken place. A remembrance service and visitation will be held at Snow’s Funeral Home on Wednesday December 17th. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm with a service to follow at 3:00 pm. A Memorial and Graveside Service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, St. John’s, Newfoundland, in June 2026.
