Pettigrew, Lloyd D “Doo-doo” of Halifax, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2014, with blessings from family in the VG, QEII. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late James and Florence Pettigrew. Lloyd’s career was with Maritime Tel & Tel Co., progressing from linesman to plant foreman over his 35 year career, retiring in 1984. After Springhill, Lloyd lived briefly in Waltham, Mass. and then Halifax for the remainder of his life. He also enjoyed summers at the cottage in Bathurst, NB. Lloyd was a proud family man, particularly so of his grandchildren who were regularly bragged about to whomever would listen, and knew him as “Doo-doo”.
Lloyd was a member of the United Memorial Church, Maritime Tel & Tel Pioneers, and a 32nd degree Mason.
Lloyd was a man with many talents, a true “Jack of all trades”. He loved to meticulously do various things such as woodworking, electrical, painting, maintenance, and supervising. He had a great passion for old cars and proudly displayed and discussed his 2 antiques.
Lloyd is survived by, and will be greatly missed by, his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis (Taylor); daughters, Joan (Dan) MacInnis and Marian (Rick) Kelly; grandchildren, Regan; Jennifer, Tom and Jillian; sister, Evelyn Canning; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including Ruth Geddes, Doug Jewkes; Florence Evelyn Backa and Fred Canning; Jim, Florence and Patti (Pettigrew); and Elta Robblee. Besides his parents, Lloyd was predeceased by siblings, Viola Rector, Ethel Jewkes, Hazel Lusignan, Ivy Bird, Arthur Pettigrew, and George Pettigrew.
Visitation to take place at J.A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (902-455-0531) from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Thursday, November 20. Funeral service to take place at United Memorial Church, 5375 Kaye Street at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 21 with a private family burial to follow. Special thanks for the wonderful support from various palliative care staff who quickly responded during Lloyd’s last days.
