Lottie Ada Grace Mitchell (nee Fralick), 103, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023, at Northwood located at 2615 Northwood Terrace in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was born in Hackett’s Cove on December 29, 1919, the daughter of Charles W. H. and Frances M. Fralick (nee Cleveland).
Lottie enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing cards, bowling, and spending time with her family and friends on the South Shore. She was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and a raucous spectator during the CFL season. She grew up in a large, hard-working family in a small, coastal community during difficult times which included wartime. As a young adult, she moved to Halifax to work in a grocery store. It was in the city where she met and worked with her future husband Ralph R. Mitchell, Vice President and Fur Designer of Mitchell Fur Company.
Lottie was a devoted mother and a selfless caregiver. She not only raised three daughters, but throughout her lifetime she cared for her brothers and father, her sister Effie, and finally, her loving husband Ralph.
She was predeceased by her brothers Charles, Victor, Weldon, Earl, and Garnet Fralick, and sisters Frances Rhuda, Lillian F. Fralick, Clara Frances, Lillian P. Moser, Minnie Josey, Rita Webber, and husband Ralph Mitchell.
She is survived by her loving and caring family: daughter Dolores Mitchell; daughter Maureen MacLellan and her husband Eric; daughter Hedy Smith and her husband Clyde; three grandchildren Richard MacLellan and his wife Jennifer; Robert MacLellan and his wife Jayne; and Clyde Mitchell Smith. She also left three great grandchildren Emma MacLellan, Ryan MacLellan, and Angus MacLellan.
The family would like to thank the healthcare team and support staff at Northwood for their professional, compassionate, and excellent care of Lottie during her stay there.
There will be a family service held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Northwood or St. Peter’s Church.
