STEWART, Lucille - July 8, 1921 – July 13, 2011, died just after her ninetieth birthday. She was born in Chester, Vermont and after public schooling left to study at McGill in Montreal. There she completed her degree in Biochemistry and also met her future husband, Ronald Stewart. Following graduation the couple came to Halifax to join the faculty at Dalhousie where Lucille worked until her retirement.
Widowed at a young age Lucille chose to stay and make a life in Halifax where she loved the history of the city and spent many hours traveling and photographing it’s byways as well as many corners of the province. Her greatest joy was her Georgian House in downtown Halifax where she gardened, listened to opera, collected stamps and read voraciously.
She is a past President and board member of Heritage Trust; volunteer for the NDP and Theatre Arts Guild. Lucille was also a member of HMCS Scotian .
Many thanks to all the folks at Country Living Estates for giving Lucille such a quality of life and to all the extraordinary team at the QEII hospital for their extreme dedication to duty.
Arrangements are entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531. There will be no remembrance service as per her request. She is survived by her dear friend, Edie Silver and her long-time family friend, Deborah Allen. Condolences to the family may be made by visiting www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
