

Hollett, (Collins) Mabel Irene, Age 89 of Halifax passed away Monday, August 25, 2014, in the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Hospital. Mabel was the middle daughter of the late Albert and Sarah (Cheeseman) Isaacs of Burin, NL. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, surpassing all in age. Mabel immigrated to Canada in early 1945 during WWII. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Eric Collins, second husband, Gerald Hollett, and daughter, Linda Fraser. She was also predeceased by son-in-law, Gerald Willis; sisters, Olive (Elwood) Harnum, Florence (Thomas) Appleby and special friend, Leonard Branton. Mom was a founding member of the Norwest Seniors Group. She spent many years bowling, playing darts and various card games. She loved gardening, walking, reading, and listening to music and spent many years dancing to Newfoundland Tunes. She was a current 25+ year member of the Fairview Seniors Lunch Group and Calvin Senior Friendship Group. Mom worked hard all her life and set good examples for her daughters to follow. News of and visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren kept her going in recent years. Mabel is survived by daughters, Doreen Willis, Halifax, Gail (Bill) Francis, Lower Sackville, Marilyn (Sam) Hollett, Burin NL; son-in-law, Ken Fraser, Lower Sackville, and step-sons, Doug and Wayne Hollett, Halifax. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531) on Friday, August 29, from 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 3311 Ashburn Ave., Halifax on Saturday, August 30, at 11 am, the Reverend Michael Koslowski officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the VON or the Canadian Cancer society.
