It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our Mom, who left this world peacefully with a gentle smile on April 16th, at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born in Lower L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred J. and Nataline (Peters) Sampson. She came from a large Cape Breton family and is survived by 9 of her 14 siblings. Known to most of her family and friends as Del, Mamie, Nanny, Great Nanny, and sometimes even Nugget. She was our guiding light and a fierce protector of her family. Mom had an unwavering faith in God and a deep love for her family. She was a devoted member of St. Ignatius Parish in Bedford and assisted the Catholic Women’s League in their many support efforts. Her charity was plenty and she gave of her heart and soul to those less fortunate.
She held many a job in her long life, from supervisor at Moirs Chocolates and cook at KFC and the Chicken Burger to name a few. Her greatest skill and joy was raising her three children, Barry (Peggy), Glenda (Edward) Reid and Frank (Laura). She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and could be seen playing catch or in a pillow fight. She was a surrogate Mom to many. We will miss her sincere words of encouragement and of course her barley crow soup and Christmas meat pie.
Our family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of Parkstone Enhanced Care, Seton Hall, for their exceptional care of Mom during her two years as a resident. Special mention to Angela, nurse Brenda, and her table partner Brenda and her niece Elaine who were a constant source of kindness.
Visitation will be Monday, April 27th from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at J.A. Snow's Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Mass will take place at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 1288 Bedford Hwy, on Tuesday, April 28th at 12:15 pm. Reception to follow in the church hall. Cremation has taken place. A private burial will be at a later date.
Donations in our Mother’s memory can be made to Feed Nova Scotia or Beacon House. (http://www.feednovascotia.ca / http://www.beaconhousens.org)
