The only daughter of the late Raymond L. and Willa Kaizer, Margi was born in Bridgewater before moving to Halifax as a young girl, attending Gorsebrook-St. Francis School and Queen Elizabeth High School. Between school and the Y-Neptunes Swim Team, Margi made friendships that would last a lifetime.
She graduated from Acadia University where she had two of her most pivotal life experiences: learning how to play bridge and meeting her life partner, Terry, who she married in August, 1971.
After graduation she worked in the family property management business until her first-born arrived in 1977. After her children had all started school she joined the Junior League, where she danced in three Follies productions. She also co-founded the Buckle-Up Baby Project—a high-profile program that promoted the importance of car seats for children. And finally, she ran a successful mail-order business selling gymnastics gifts and equipment out of the family basement.
When she wasn’t volunteering or working, she could be found in the stands of every gymnastics competition, basketball game, track and field meet and hockey match her kids participated in. She watched at least one of her kids play soccer in every province in Canada—always bundled up, shaking her water bottle with a penny in it as a makeshift noise maker.
One of her true passions was bridge, where she achieved the rank of Life Master. She also enjoyed golf—with somewhat less success—but equal enthusiasm. But she was probably best known for her cooking and baking; always offering up her dinner table to anyone who wanted a good meal and a better laugh. Her Christmas eve parties were truly legendary—for those who were able to remember them.
Once Margi and Terry became empty nesters, they caught the travel bug which saw them traverse the globe—including England, Ireland, Russia, Egypt, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, Antarctica and Southeast Asia. But wherever she traveled, her favourite place was always the family cottage on the beach at Queensland.
Margi leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Terry, children Peter, Halifax, Martha of Carrboro, NC and her children Jack and Kate, and Julie of Halifax and her soon to be born daughter. She is also survived by her brothers Bill, of Halifax, and Ray (Nancy), Ottawa, niece Wendy Smith (Ian Lambert) Ottawa and nephew Jeff Kaizer (John Burnham) Orlando Fl.
There will be no funeral service or visitation due to the pending arrival of a brand new Lawrence, but there will be a celebration of her life at a later date. In Margi’s memory, the family encourages you to make a donation to The Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia to help fund support and research on this devastating illness.
