

Marie was an energetic woman who provided an amazing example of strength to her children. Marie’s work ethic was unmatched. For many years Marie taught preschool at St. Patrick’s Parish. She was then employed at the IWK where she was a treasured and respected employee until she retired in 1998 after more than 25 years of outstanding service. Marie loved to dance, bowl and most of all loved being Nanny to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marie will be deeply missed by her family and the many friends she had made in her lifetime.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Donna Frederick (Terry), Kamsack, Sask., Frances Videto (Doug), Middleton, Linda Nieuwenstein (Paul), Dartmouth, sons, Carl (Jim),Vancouver, Ronald (Nancy), Hammonds Plains, Clifford (Stefanie), Charlottetown, Edward (Heather), Halifax, Michael (Patsy), Halifax, grandchildren Jack Frederick (Shauna), Jennifer Falkenham (John), Eric Grouse, Marie Grouse-Falkenham, Mark Falkenham, Ryan Falkenham, Libby Falkenham, Jessica Payne, Mitchell Nieuwenstein, Russell Nieuwenstein, Ryan and Ian McKenna, great-grandchildren, Jemma and Alivia, sister Ruth Redden and many very special nieces and nephews.
Marie was predeceased by her sisters Blanche Mullins, Verna Fredericks, Mabel McDonnell, Pearl Collins, Edith Naugle, Shirley Martin, Elizabeth Lake, brothers, Russell, Earl, Roy and Ralph Smith, granddaughter,Tracey Frederick.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral mass will be held in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 6903 Mumford Road, Halifax on Wednesday, February 17 at 10 am. Reception to follow in the church hall. There will be a private burial.
