

Neima (MacGillivray), Marie Anna, RN – 81 of Bedford, formerly of Porters Lake, passed away peacefully at home on December 13, 2011 surrounded by her adoring family. Born in Antigonish, NS on August 3,1930 she was the only surviving daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ryan) MacGillivray. Marie will be sadly missed by her devoted husband Richard with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of fulfillment and adventure, including 15 years in retirement when they travelled extensively based out of their winter home in Barefoot Bay, Florida. In addition to her husband, Marie is survived by her five children, Marina (Carl Burns), Jack (Lianne), Richard Jr. (Sherry), Paul (Trish), and Denise (Dwayne Wilson) along with 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Gerald MacGillivray (Antigonish, NS) and Donald MacGillivray (Calgary, AL). She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Rev. John MacGillivray and Rev. (CSC) Hugh MacGillivray and a baby sister in infancy. Marie was a graduate of the St. Martha’s School of Nursing and a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi. She has worshiped at St. Ignatius Church since her move to Bedford in 2009. Known widely as “Sweet Marie” she was an avid artist whose paintings will be a cherished reminder of her many talents. She will be sadly missed by her many friends. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Services staff of the Capital Health District, the VON, and especially family doctor, Dr. Shaifta Jabeen, who have provided outstanding support and comfort during the past number of weeks. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Friday, December 16th from 2-4 & 6-8pm. on A funeral mass in celebration of Marie’s life will be held at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 1288 Bedford Highway on Saturday, December, 17, 2011 at 1:00 pm with family internment at a later date in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
