It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished mother Marie Alva Simpson (Cookson) on December 9, 2023. She was born in Halifax to the late John and Irene Cookson and the second youngest of nine.
She is survived by her three girls, Joanne (Wyman) Baker, Sharon (Wayne) Goss, Paula Simpson (Kevin) and sister Madeline Kiley. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Gerald Simpson who she never got over losing this past March; her brothers, John (Mary) Cookson, James (Barbara) Cookson, Roy Cookson, Wayne Cookson, and sisters, June (Fred) Cowper, Eileen (John) MacDonald, and Dorothy (James) Dacey.
Mom loved to sew, especially around Halloween making one of a kind costumes for her and dad, they won fist place many times. Mom and dad met at a dance at Olympic Gardens in Halifax and continued to “cut a rug” many Saturday nights at Windsor Park and later Stadacona. Mom was also an original member of their Ladies Dart league and Mixed Dart league as well. Mom loved her sparkles and was not above getting out her glue gun to bedazzle anything that didn’t sparkle enough (shoes, toilet seats, lamps, gloves, purses, tops and many other things). Mom was a shopper and could not pass up “a good sale” even if it didn’t fit, she loved her sales.
Mom was a loving Nan, Nanny, or Maw to her cherished grandchildren, Scott (Beth), Matthew (Julia), Sean, Taylor, Nicole, Megan (Michael), Shannon, her great grandchildren Logan, Emmett, Rhyse and Ruby Pearl along with grand puppy and nap partner Daisy.
A celebration of life will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Family burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission or any charity.
