CLARKE, Marion Winnifred – 91, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, in the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Hospital, on March 09, 2021, closely supported by her immediate family. Born in Halifax on March 09, 1930, Marion was one of five children of the late Robert and Aminda (Ransom) Bobbitt. Marion’s mother passed away when she was very young. Consequently, she became very close to her church community at Bethany United, participating in many church sponsored activities, including CGIT, Junior Girls Choir, and the badminton team. She was very thankful for the impact the church community had on her life. Marion continued her church involvement at Fairview United Church, working tirelessly as a member of United Church Women (UCW), working at Senior’s luncheon and being active in many aspects of her church community. Outside of church, Marion was a very social person. She enjoyed bridge club, loved to travel, vacationed in Florida, and valued spending time with friends. In recent years, her many friends at Cameron Hall became an integral part of her social life. She was employed with Household Finance Corporation for 26 years, retiring as a Branch Manager. Marion was married to her husband Gordon for 66 years and was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She fully embraced the role of hockey/soccer mom and as her family got older, she cherished “family time”, especially when it included grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marion and Gordon loved watching hockey. They were season ticket holders with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs and the Halifax Mooseheads. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins were their favorites. Marion will be sadly missed by sons Gary (Dorothy), Robert (Debra) and Laurie (Rita); six grandchildren; Jennifer (Kendall), Matthew (Laura), Shawn (Susanne), Alasdair, Gavin and Real; four great grandchildren (Lochlan, Harlan, Charlotte and Sylvie). Marion was pre-deceased by her husband Gordon, brothers Gerald, Albert and Donald, sister Ruby and great grandson Emmerson. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation and the funeral will be by invitation only. The service will be held on Wednesday, March 17 at 2:00 pm, (Reverend Angela MacLean), at Fairview United Church, 3524 Dutch Village Road, Halifax, with viewing available online, using Facebook @fairviewunitedcommunity. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairview United Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to JA Snow Funeral Home and online condolences may be directed to jasnowfuneralhome.com. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, paramedics, Parkland staff and homecare workers who supported mom, especially over the last several years.
