Mary Elaine Cookson

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Mary Elaine Cookson of Halifax who passed away on May 19, 2014. Born February 7, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Kathleen (Murphy) Melanson.

Mary was an active member of Saint Benedict Parish and CWL. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was well loved by her extended family and friends. Mary enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren, working in her garden and at the church, travelling, and spending time with her friends. Mary was employed with Commercial Union Canada for nearly 30 years as branch secretary and as a senior commercial underwriter.

She is survived by her husband, James, Halifax; daughter Suzanne (Saad) Wehbe, Bedford; grandchildren, Andrew and Sara, Bedford; brothers John and Charles, Halifax; and sisters Doris McCartney, Halifax, and Margaret (Bob) Briggs, Dartmouth. Mary was predeceased by brothers Wilfred and Lawrence.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21 from 2-4 and 6-8 with a funeral service on Thursday, May 22 at 10:30 with Rev. Duncan MacMaster presiding; both to be held at Saint Benedict’s Parish, 45 Radcliffe Dr. Halifax. Interment will be held at later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Halifax. Family flowers only.
