

Mary “Josephine” Harkin, 82, of Duffus Street, Halifax, passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital in Halifax on June 30, 2016 surrounded by family. Josephine was born in Riverside-Albert, NB on May 15, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Duffy) Rossiter.
Josephine worked many years in the dry cleaning business, until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League at Saint Brendan’s Chapel, CFB Halifax. She was a volunteer for the Cancer Society, Salvation Army, and many other good causes.
She is survived by her son, David (Sharon) Rossiter, of Hillsborough, NB; daughter Colleen (David) Fredericks of Berwick, NS, companion George Thibault of Halifax, granddaughter Kimberly (Scott) of Forrest Home, NS, grandson Kyle of NB, great-granddaughter Haley, sister Catherine (Gary) Nickerson of London, Ontario, and brother Walter (Janet) Rossiter of Riverside-Albert, NB. She will be greatly missed by several other nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by first husband James Alo Harkin, second husband John “Red” Knight, her brothers Gerald and Raymond and sister Gerry.
She will be resting at Snow’s Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive, in Halifax, with visitation being held on Friday, July 8th, from 6-9PM. The funeral mass will be at Saint Brendan’s Chapel at CFB, Halifax, 2710 Admiral’s Way, Stadacona Base, Halifax on Saturday, July 9th at 10 AM, with Father Claude Pigeon officiating. Please bring photo identification in order to enter the base. Interment will be held at a later date at the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Hopewell Hill, NB. After the service, the family will be meeting with relatives and friends at Saint Brendan’s Chapel Hall for sharing of memories and refreshments.
