Mary Ellen Hickey

Mary Ellen Hickey -83 of Halifax NS passed away peacefully on October 21, 2011 at the V.G. hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born in Little Bras D’Or Cape Breton however grew up in Lunenburg NS. Mary was the daughter of the late Celestine and Fanny (Foote) Hannams. Mom was a lifetime member of the ladies auxiliary Fairview legion branch 142. She was also a ladies auxiliary member for St. Johns Anglican church in Fairview. Mary loved to get up every morning have her breakfast, get the morning newspaper and do the crossword puzzle. Every year she would take a trip to the United States to visit her cousins John and Carole Mallory where she was treated like a queen. Mary is survived by two sons Brian and David, three sisters Laura Risser, Janet Burns, and Elizabeth Eisenhauer. Mom also leaves behind four grandchildren Tim, Kyle, Brian, and Sarah. She loved them with all her heart and doted over them every time they came to visit her. Mary is predeceased by her husband Philip, son Bruce, two brothers Wilfred, Gerald, and three sisters Violet, Alma, and Rhoda. The funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday, October 25th at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive Halifax. Rev. Randy Townsend will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.
