KENNEY, Mary Evangeline— 87, of Halifax. It is with sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mary Evangeline Kenney on October 3, 2009, in Northwood Centre, Halifax. Mary was born in Port Williams. She was a daughter of W. Blanche (Wambolt) Brown, and Rev. Gordon Brown. She was predeceased by her husband, Stuart Albert Kenney in 1968 as well as son, Allan Robert Kenney who died in infancy in 1956. Mary was a strong woman who through adversity devoted her attention to her children making sure she was there for them when they were young. She showed her strength, and with the loving assistance of our family, was able to remain home with her children when they were young, and when her children grew older was employed in the office of Caldwell Brothers for seven years until her retirement. She was a past secretary for the ACW at All Saints Cathedral in Halifax; a long-time member of the Waegwoltic Club; and attended Art College in her youth where she finished several paintings, and later on studied French as a hobby. She enjoyed traveling and went overseas a couple of times touring with her family. Having a Minister for a father, gave the need for the family to relocate several times throughout her childhood. Blue Rocks was one of those places that held a special meaning for her and where she told stories of their lives there. Left behind is brother,Victor Brown (Phyllis); son, David Kenney (Debbie), and his children, Jason Kenney, Bryan Kenney, Jonathan Kenney, and Krista Kenney; Mary's son, Gregory Kenney (Melvina) Halifax, and Gregory's stepson, Christopher White, and Mary's only daughter, Sharon MacDonald, Halifax, and her sons, Trevor MacDonald, Andrew MacDonald, Kevin MacDonald, and Kyle MacDonald. Mary was a long-time resident of south end Halifax where she maintained a home and could be seen gardening and planting her red geraniums each summer. The family would like to thank the staff at Northwood Centre 1 for all the care and compassion they showed our mother. Visiting will be held Wednesday, October 7, from 7- 9 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, with funeral service Thursday, October 8, at 11 a.m. in All Saints Cathedral, Martello Street (formerly Tower Road), Halifax.
