Mary Monica Mahoney

Monica (98) died peacefully in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on June 19, 2021. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of Joseph and Bridget (Scanlan) Mahoney. Monica was predeceased by her brothers (Joseph, Matthew, Paul, Peter and Tom) and her sister Moira (Peggy). She is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews.

Monica was employed by the federal government throughout her working career and she was a devoted member of her church serving as a sacristan for religious functions at the “old” Halifax Infirmary, until it’s closure. Monica lived a quiet life, treasuring her independence, her solitude and time with her family, especially with her three generations of nieces and nephews. She will be remembered lovingly by those who knew her well.

Her family is grateful to Leslie Millikin (2017-2019) and Laurel Collins (2019-2021) and their respective teams for the outstanding care and loving attitude they extended to Monica over the past four years. A funeral mass will be held (at a later date) at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, 5221 Spring Garden Road, Halifax N.S., followed by a family burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
