Mary Mildred Smith

Smith (Richard), Mary Mildred – It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Mildred (Richard) Smith, 86 of Dartmouth, announces her passing on September 6, 2025, at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Tignish, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Phyllis (nee Martin) Richard and beloved husband Cecil Smith

Mary is survived by her children Sons Larry (Bobbie), Joe (Darlene), Jim (Sharon) and Mike; daughters Sharon (Slade), Sandra and Amanda (Jeff); Grandchildren Rebecca, Alicia, Katie, Nick, Issac and Brody and Great Grandchildren: Joshua, Jenna, Mason, Zoe, Tristin, Dane, Willow and Benjamin; and several nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her Granddaughters Jessica Tilley and Rachel Connolly; brothers Emmanuel, Edgar, Henry; sisters Evelyn and Leona

Mary held many domestic jobs throughout her life. however, her biggest accomplishment was the raising of her 7 children. She always looked forward to what was referred to as “Nanny’s Sunday”

In her younger years she enjoyed Bingo and Bowling; Her home was an open door all the neighbourhood, whether you were an adult or child. Sometimes there were more of the neighborhood children at the kitchen table then her own. In her golden years, she enjoyed Poker Bingo and Yahtzee. Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She was extravagant with the decorations and her home was a Christmas wonderland. Everyone was welcome to drop in anytime especially over the holidays.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hurley and his team, the nursing staff of 3 East of the Dartmouth General, and a special thanks to Sobey’s Pharmacy on Windsor St. for going above and beyond for Mom over the years.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday September 16, 2025 from 11am-1pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
