

We the family of the late Maxwell Owen, 83, sadly announce his passing at Northwood Centre, Sept 13, 2019. Born in Halifax, he was the eldest child of the late Harry and Marie (Smith). Max grew up in Tantallon and graduated from Halifax vocational school as a machinist. A 35 year career followed at the Halifax Herald Ltd. Max’s passion was music. He led a ‘Top 40’ group in Metro during the 70’s and early 80’s. After retiring, Max wintered in Florida for several years, where his music once again took center stage. He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta (Keeping); son Vance; daughter, Kimberley Gray (Victor); grandsons Robert (Tracy) and Mark Gray. Stepsons Michael Cheeseman (Carla, Nolan and Kara) and Chris Cheeseman; brothers, Glen (Sharon), Allan, Ken (Doreen); sister, Nancy Rondeau (Scott Burgess); brother-in-law, John Coleman (Carol); and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Max was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Twohig); sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Coleman; sister-in-law, Judith Edwards and Florence Edwards. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J A Snow Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church, Ketch Harbour or a charity of your choice.
