Like a melody muted far too soon, our darling Michelle passed away at home on Sunday, October 31, 2021, surrounded in the loving care of her family. She goes on to join her parents, Frances (Wade) and Hugh Gailey. Our precious Shell will be forever missed by her four sisters, Gillian Gailey (Richard Snell), Jan Gailey, Beverley Gailey-Roach (Tony Roach) and Lorraine Gailey. She was beloved Aunt Mitch to her nieces Meagan, Carly (Brad), Jillian (Adam) and Kiri, and to her nephews Gregory (Erin), Nicholas (Sarah), Stephen (Lindsay), Fletcher (Ashley), Campbell (Kayla) and Jesse. Shell was an amazing Great Aunt to Audrey and Henry, Lydia and Luke, Francis and Gabriel, Elliot and Emerson, Alexandra and Desmond, and little Maple. Michelle so loved her Fisher cousins Michael, Leslie, Mark and Clare and their families. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her Aunt Dinny, Uncle Gordon, cousin Clare and infant nephew Julian.
Michelle felt deeply connected to her Wade relatives in Penniac and afar. She treasured her relationship with childhood friend, Lena from Ottawa and enjoyed catching up with Marjorie Fisher and Tony’s mom, Jean. Shell will be dearly missed by her guiding mentor Cilla, and all her Halifax friends, including the Pool Gang, the Ladies of Lewis Lake, and her former colleagues.
Michelle retired in 2012 from her 32 years in the Federal Public Service. Our pitch-perfect sister was musically gifted and enjoyed playing clarinet in the Halifax Concert Band for over 30 years. She always had a little song to match every occasion. Her sense of humour was razor sharp with one-line zingers and, in her own words, “I made them laugh.”
Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nag Sannidhanam, Deborah McLeod, the wonderful staff of the Oncology and Palliative Care Teams, and the compassionate VON nurses, especially Maureen and Amber.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 8th from 11:00am to 1:30pm Atlantic Standard Time (AST) with funeral to follow at 2:00pm (AST) at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
