

Muriel (Bell) Fillmore Shatford, age 91, of St. Margarets Bay, N.S., passed away on April 13, 2026. Born in Lakeside, Halifax Co., on February 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late G. Roland Bell and G. Blanche Murray.
Muriel was a woman who truly loved life and being social. She had a deep passion for music, which she expressed through singing and playing several different instruments. She enjoyed tap and ballroom dancing and loved the excitement of putting on shows.
Her faith and community were central to her life. She was a very active member of her church, holding several offices over the years, and dedicated much of her time to missions, outreach, and various community projects.
Muriel is survived by her sister, Betty Minnick, and her five children: sons Timothy (Rhoda) of Ingramport and Randy (Cindy) of St. Margarets Bay; and daughters Bonnie (Ray Crews) of Upper Tantallon, Sandra (Terry Pulsifer) of Upper Tantallon, and Wendy (Mathew Hessian) of Hammonds Plains. She is also survived by her five step-children: Patty, Pamela, Steven, Michael, and Brian Shatford.
She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Michele, Candace, Tyler, Ashley, Jonathan, Emily, Mikayla, and Addison; and six great-grandchildren.
Muriel was predeceased by her husbands, Douglas Fillmore Jr. and Desmond Shatford; her brother, Murdock; and her sisters, Dolly, Ruth, Mary, and Jean.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Whitehills Long Term Care Centre for their care and compassion.
A funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, April 23 in St. Margaret's Bay Baptist Church, 6374 St. Margarets Bay Road. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship room downstairs.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Muriel’s memory may be made to the church or to Souls Harbour.
