Myles Boutilier, My Special Friend

Myles was always my special friend, although we hadn’t seen each other for many years.  He and I met in St. John’s, Nfld. in the mid seventies and hit it off right away.  He moved back to Halifax in early 1976 and I moved over from St. John’s to stay, later that spring.  He lived in a relative’s apartment near the frog pond at Purcell’s Cove Road while I had a number of different apartments around Spryfield.  We spent a lot of time together and he was always there to help me move to my next place.  We both really enjoyed music and stereo equipment and always seemed to be doing something with one or the other.  Although he and I socialized, I could feel Myles starting to settle down because of that special girl of his, Sandy.  They were a great couple, and they and my girl friend Linda Logan and I had many good times together. 
Myles was my best man when I married my Linda in 1980.  I have pictures of Myles and Sandy with us having good times at a number of different parties at our house in Terrence Bay and at the New Year’s party that Myles organized at the old Wandlyn Motel on the Bedford highway. Around the mid eighties, I got more involved with work and Myles and Sandy were starting their family and so we drifted apart because of our interests at the time.  But, I always thought of Myles over the years.  In 1991 Linda and I moved to Ottawa for work purposes and only in 2007 did I retire and we moved back to Halifax.
I thought about calling Myles so many times but never got to do it.  We frequently drove through the Bedford area and always looked around to see if I might catch sigh of him or Sandy out and about.  I met a co-worker of his about a year ago, who said he knew Myles and that he thought Myles was retiring shortly and so I said that I would give him a chance to get through that and then I would call.  I am really sorry that I waited.  I really miss Myles, with his special personality and happy laugh.  He always had a smile and was the most likeable person you would want to meet. 

I offer my sadness and condolences, on mine and my wife Linda’s behalf, to Sandy and her children and to the Boutilier and Evong families in their great loss.

Dear Boutilier family, I was saddened to here of Myles passing.  I know he had been ill.  I work at Public Works with Myles and he will be greatly missed.  Take comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering.  Let the wonderful memories surround you and give you comfort.  Laugh and cry when you remember him.  He will never be gone as long as he remains in your hearts.

Dear Sandy, Heather and the Boutilier family, Please accept my condolences at the passing of your beloved Myles. Find comfort in knowing that his love will always be with you in your hearts and that he lives whenever memories of him are shared. May the love around you help you through the days ahead. My thoughts are with you.

Sandy and Family, my sympathy to you on your loss. I will miss Myles greatly out here at Sandy Lake, he always was willing to help out and lend his strength to any project or simply put on a pot of tea and invite me in for a chat.
He was a fine, kind man that lived life with humor and good nature.
