Nancy Dianne (Macmillan) Kieran, 83, of Bedford, NS, passed away on April 4, 2018, at the Victoria General Palliative Care Unit after a battle with cancer in which she did not let it dull her sparkle.
She was born February 3, 1935, in Toronto, Ontario, to Nelson and Bubbles MacMillan, and graduated from nursing at the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital in 1956. She served as a nurse throughout her career, but it was while serving in the Naval Reserves at HMCS Chippawa that she met the love of her life, Harley Kieran, a naval officer. The two were married in 1960, and their dreams were realized when daughters Lorna and Cathy came along. A loving wife, mother and homemaker, Nancy was known for her exceptional cooking and she loved entertaining family and friends. She enjoyed playing bridge with close friends and meeting up with retired Navy friends – the Wednesday Lunch Bunch. With postings in Toronto, ON, Norfolk, Virginia, Victoria, BC, London, England and Halifax, NS,
Nancy was adored by friends from coast to coast and around the world. She is survived by her devoted husband, Harley; daughters, Lorna (Phil) and Cathy; grandchildren, Cameron, Claire, Harley and Grace; sister, Judy (Ray) and brother, Jim (Eleanor). The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
