
MAHAR, Nellie Annabelle (Sanford) – 84, passed away peacefully May 12, 2011 at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor Nova Scotia, with her special niece Dee Dee by her side. Born in Walton, Hants County, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Bertha (Lake) Sanford.
She formerly worked at The School for the Blind, Halifax and for many years as “the best” waitress at Sunnyside restaurant, Bedford. Nellie was known for her wonderful sense of humor and was well loved by all that knew her. She loved to dance, was immaculately dressed in fashion with a pink hat and oversized sunglasses.
Nellie is survived by son, Raymond (Lorraine) Spencer, Aylesford; grandson John, Vancouver; granddaughter Trina (Thompson), Montreal; great-grandson, Ayrton; sister Francis (Patterson) Ellis, Tenecape; many nieces and nephews and special great niece Natasha Leyenaar.
She is predeceased by her husband Arthur, sisters Mary, Ada, Madge, Ellen, Blanche; brothers Harry, Garfield, Lloyd, Emmerson, Ped, and Gordie.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Dykeland Lodge for their outstanding love and care.
Arrangements are entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531. A graveside burial service will be held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 33 Old Sackville Road, Lower Sackville on Thursday, May 19th at 3 p.m.
