Norman Frederick MacLeod, 78, of Halifax passed away peacefully in the QEII Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, December 22, 2016 with this family at his side. Norm was the son of Norman and Adele MacLeod of New Glasgow. He is survived by wife Karen (Baillie), sons Glen (Brenda) and Brian (Tammy), and grandchildren Maya Rose and Ethan Alexander.
His gentle soul, approachable nature, and uncommon sensibility made him a favourite of all he met.
Norm was retired after spending a rewarding career as a civil engineer, spending 35-plus years with the Canadian Portland Cement Association. He stayed connected to his engineering background in his retirement through teaching and mentorship.
Norm was an avid music lover, playing in bands for much of life, and always enjoyed the smooth stylings of jazz or the upbeat sounds of the big bands. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Ashburn Golf Club for many years. In his retirement years, he took great pleasure in playing with his friends at different courses around the province.
Norm was an active and devoted Mason. He was as a member of the St. Andrew’s Lodge and served as Provincial Grand Secretary of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island at the time of his passing. He had a special fondness for the Scottish Rite Learning Centre for Children in Dartmouth and spent countless hours supporting the organization to help children manage the challenge of dyslexia.
