It is with great sadness that the family of Olga Meagher of Halifax announce her passing on September 21, 2025, at the age of 82 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax on March 7, 1943, she was predeceased by her loving husband Frank, father Sophocles Poulos, mother Marguerita Poulos, sister Ann Kane (and husband Thomas), and sister-in-law Janet Ferguson. Survived by her son David (Lana) and grandsons Colton (Emma Holle) and Chad, son Chris (Carrie) and granddaughters Ashley and Paige. Also survived by her sister Helen Poulos, niece Laura Burke (Steve), nephew Strat Kane (Nova), brother-in-law David White (Beverley), and sister-in-law Carol White-Ritcey (Jim) and many more loving nieces and nephews. She was very fortunate to have several lifelong and cherished friends who she enjoyed spending time with and having regular phone chats with to catch up on their news.
Olga graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School in 1961 and from Halifax Vocational School in 1962. She was employed at Canada Life, then took on her most important job of raising her boys before going back to work at the County of Halifax followed by a career at Sears from which she retired in 1992.
Olga devoted her life to her loved ones creating an extremely close family and circle of friends. She found immense joy spending time with them, as well as caring for her sister Helen. Over the years, she found enjoyment through dancing, bowling, cooking, shopping, watching hockey and curling, going to her grandchildren’s sporting events, spending time at the cottage with family, and travelling. Olga, known as Yiayia to her grandchildren, was always very proud of her Greek heritage and was fortunate to have a trip of a lifetime there with Frank and close friends.
From an early age she had a sense for fashion, loved tradition, and enjoyed attending social events. What defined Olga’s personality best was that she was kind, caring, welcoming to all, and was always concerned about the special people in her life. Although it is heart breaking to say good-bye to such a remarkable woman, it brings us comfort knowing that she is reunited with her soulmate.
