Patricia Richards

Pat Richards, 83, passed away on July 27, 2013 after a short illness. Pat had been a resident at Shannex Maplestone Enhanced Care on Main Street in Fairview. Pat grew up in Regina, SK and after marrying, started her family in Tibu, Colombia. The family moved to the USA, Nigeria and Norway before settling in Halifax in 1980.

With her sister-in-law, Dr. Frances Bail, she started up the St. Margaret’s Bay Animal Hospital in 1988 and worked as the Office Manager there until 2003 when she retired. In the 1980s, Pat served the Halifax community in a number of volunteer roles including a probation volunteer in the Bedford/Lower Sackville court system, and as a caretaker in the Diana Blakeney Guild, an organization dedicated to the support of those living with cancer.

Pat is survived by her husband, Dave Richards of Halifax, and her son, Evan Richards of Philadelphia PA. She is also survived by several cousins and extended family in Calgary, AB and Virden, MB.

A celebration tea will be held on July 31, 2-4 at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Pat and her life.
