

He was born in Prospect Village, Nova Scotia on August 27, 1946. He was the son of the late Marian Beck and David Owen Doherty. He was predeceased by his wife Marsha Jane Sullivan, grandson Callen Doherty, sisters Kathleen Coolen and Louise Christian, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Brenda and Ronie Kervin. He was survived by his son Sean (Erin) Doherty, daughter Rachael Doherty, sister Jovita Slaunwhite, and brother-in-law William Sullivan. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He worked for the CN Rail as a waiter/line cook and at The Department of National Defence as a Millwright.
Patrick spent his younger years in Prospect Village. He moved to Halifax with his mother when he started St Patrick High School. He always took great pride in his appearance. In High School he was known as the best dressed man. He arrived on his first day of school in a three-piece suit. The other students thought he was a teacher. He always took pride in his expensive Rolex watch and his Serengeti Sunglasses. He enjoyed going to the dances in Terence Bay. He was known as a lady’s man, always flirting with the ladies. Even in his last days he was making moves on the nurses when he was in the Hospital. He loved playing baseball and getting into fights. He was very protective of his family and friends. He was the first person to defend anyone that needed help. Patrick loved nature, going on hikes and picnics with his family and friends. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a great cook. He mastered making deer and rabbit stew. He enjoyed making big breakfasts after a big night of partying. He enjoyed watching boxing, listening to jazz, rock and blues music. He had a passion for photography. He took many pictures of nature, and his family and friends at gatherings. He was a great crib player. Near the end he taught his daughter how to play crib, but he always tended to change the rules of the game on her. His favorite summer vacation spot was going to Parlee Beach. Patrick had many friends and was well known.
Patrick’s wishes were to be cremated and buried along side his wife and grandson in Prospect Village at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. The wake will take place in the Saint Carlo Actus Centre at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford Street on March 5, 2026. It will take place between 5-8 pm. The Funeral will take place on March 6. 2026 at St Thomas Aquinas Church at 10 am. Interment will take later in the Spring. Donations in his name can be made at the Canadian Diabetes Association and/or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
