With incredible sadness the family of Philip R. Godfrey announce his unexpected passing on October 15th, 2025. Born in February 1938 to Rev. Frederick H. and Lillian (Gazeley) Godfrey, in Truro, NS, Philip was predeceased by his loving life partner and best friend, Darlene (nee Nute) and granddaughter, Nathalie Godfrey.
Philip is survived by the seven M’s; Michael (Wendy), Marc (Mary), Mary (Tom) Boker, M. Fred (Dean-Na), Maurene (Ron) Burns, Michelle (Reg) MacDonald and Matthew (Karen); 20 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. Philip will also be remembered by his sister, Sylvelin (Howard) Oakey, sisters and brothers in law, Marilyn Emery, Carole (Ralph) Minkler, Ron (Susie) Nute and their families.
Philip was a well-respected member of the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring after 31 years of service, with the rank of Chief Petty Officer 1’st Class. The family had early years of East to West travel for postings, settling finally in Halifax in 1971 for the remainder of his career. Following his Naval career, Philip went to work for Saint John Shipyards and used his extensive knowledge towards the development of the systems on the new Canadian Navy Frigates. He will be remembered by many in Windsor as the music man for the Avon Figure Skating Club in the 70’s and 80’s.
Philip and Darlene enjoyed many years watching the grandchildren at the ball field and encouraging all of them to reach for their dreams no matter what they may be.
Our family will miss his quirky half smile and rare chuckle, hosting Sunday dinners, birthdays and special events and those, “let’s go for a drive” days.
By his request no service will be held. Committal at Sea at a later date.
Goodbye for now, Dad…Mum will be so glad to see you…send us a Blue Jay or Cardinal message when you are settled… We love and miss you always.
