It is with pain and sorrow in our hearts that we announce Ragnar Oscar Simensen, 71, of Three Brooks passed away on September 22, 2013, with loving family by his side, after a long and extraordinary encounter with cancer. Ragnar was born on June 22, 1942 in Fredrickstad, Norway to caring parents and a loving sister. In 1967 he graduated with a marine engineering degree and that same year he married his love, Unni. Ragnar spent most of his life in Canada, the couple emigrated to Montreal together in 1968, the start of a rich and joyful life which would bring children, grandchildren and many friends. He traveled the world working as a marine engineer before joining Unni in their family business, Scanway Catering. Ragnar was the ultimate host, always charming, and never allowing a glass to become empty. His strong hand shake was infamous. His talents and interests were vast, and ranged from complex to simple. He was a fierce chess player, an avid skier, and a huge soccer fan. He could rebuild a diesel engine blindfolded. There are times all he wanted was a glass of red wine, a good book and a sunny patio. He had a stubborn determination all his life, which was especially showcased in the last few years, as he defied all odds and diagnosis. Ragnar was loved by many friends, and mostly by his family in Canada and Norway. A celebration of Ragnar’s life will be held on Sunday, September 29th at 1:00 pm in the gardens at 23 Three Brooks Drive, Hubley. Thanks to all the doctors and nurses that cared so much for Ragnar. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Right To Play Canada. Condolences and memories of Ragnar may be sent to [email protected]
