It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and family doctor. Rex Lomar Langdon (age 95) was such a lovely gentle and caring man.
Dad was born in 1929 and grew up in Northern Arm, Central Newfoundland. He was one of five children of Hilda and Kenneth Langdon of Northern Arm. He left Newfoundland to study medicine at Dalhousie University. He graduated from Dal as a family physician in 1957 and practiced for 56 years. He retired at the age of 83, despite the wishes of his remaining patients.
Dad was a great friend and family man. He was a lifelong golfer and an avid member of Ashburn Golf Course in the summer and Halifax Curling Club in the winter. He was a well-respected member of Ashburn for many years.
We had our annual summer vacations that we all looked forward to and enjoyed sharing with family friends including the Auld’s, Harper’s, Perry’s, Rae’s, and more. All of which were planned around golf. Newfoundland, Ingonish and Cavendish were our favorite destinations. Mom and Dad usually took winter vacations to either Florida, a cruise, or trip to Bermuda.
Dad's eldest son, Kevin John, passed away in 1978. Also predeceased by his wife, Bernice (Parsons) of 51 years, mother (Hilda Gilliard) and father Kenneth Langdon, sister Ada (John) Worsley, brother Edsel (Ada) Langdon, brother Kevin Langdon and son-in-law Ian MacDonald.
He is survived by his daughter Patsy (Jay) Gorveatte, son Paul (Debbie) Langdon and daughter Maureen MacDonald (Kevin Heidinger). Also, his Grandchildren, Kevin (Diana) MacDonald, Amy Langdon, Graham MacDonald (Meghan Josey), Ali Langdon (David Yi), and Great-Grandson Emmett MacDonald. He unfortunately didn’t get to meet his only Great Granddaughter due in July, Esmaé Isabelle (Kevin & Diana). Also, his last remaining sibling and good friend, brother Robert (Betty) Langdon, Sister-in-law Marilyn (Coates) Langdon. Nephews Darryl (Sherri Lohnes) Langdon, Dave (Jackie Boudreau) Langdon, Robert (Sharon) Langdon, Kenneth (Jennifer) Langdon, and Stephen Parsons. Nieces Peggy Langdon, Janet (Bruce Pashak) Langdon, Deborah Langdon, Sharon (Daniel Manning) Parsons. He has/had many other relatives throughout Newfoundland including, but not limited to, Owen (Phyllis) Langdon, Northern Arm.
Great respect and gratitude to Shannex Enhanced Care, including Parkland Assisted Living, and Parkstone Nursing Home (Flemming Way). Without the tender loving care of their nursing staff, and employees from every department, his life wouldn’t have been as enriched as it was. They all loved and cared for “Papa Rex”. Evelyn Hollett and Yvonne Bellworthy were loving caregivers to both mom and dad in their later years. Many thanks to Dr. Angela Morash for her care over the last 4 years.
A service and reception will be held at Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS on June 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven, Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
