Riad Kamel Zakhour

It is with heavy hearts, our family wishes to announce the passing of Riad Kamel Zakhour at age 67 on Monday June 17th, 2024. Riad immigrated to Canada in 1976 and began working at a popular Halifax restaurant, Pepe’s. It was during this time he discovered he was passionate about food, and the quality of food. Riad soon became a business owner himself, having operated a number of pizzerias over the years with his latest being Baba’s. Riad became well known for his generosity and passion for cooking. He is adored by all that knew him especially in both the Lebanese and Greek communities as well as the community in Harriestfield, Williamswood, and Sambro - you were all family to him at Baba’s.

The son of the late Kamel and Saadah Zakhour, Riad was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many whom walked in his path. He will be forever missed by his beloved wife of 45 years Nada Zakhour, son Terry (Janna); daughters, Caroline (Michel) Farah and Nicole Zakhour. He was adored by his grandchildren; Selina, Maria-Skye, Rosie, Alexander, and Sasha. Riad was predeceased by his brother Zaki (Salem) Zakhour and his sister Safira (Walid) Farid.

Riad is survived by brother’s Zakhour (Sabah) Zakhour, Hatem (Dalal) Zakhour, Tarek (predeceased Kyova) Zakhour, Naja (Naziha) Zakhour, and sister Rahji (Saadallah) Ayoub, and many nieces and nephews both here and in Australia who loved and cared about him very much.

Riad had a very special bond with his mother in-law Nouha Saoud and brother in-law Elham (Naza) Saoud and their daughters Christina and Nicole.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Visitations will be held Thursday June 20th from 4pm - 8pm at JA Snow Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday June 21st at 11am at Saint Antonios Church, 2480 Windsor Street, Halifax. Father Maximos Saikali officiating. Burial in Saint Antonios Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Antonios Building Fund.
