Born in New Delhi, India, on September 22, 1971, she was the daughter of Asha Taneja and the late Satish Kumar Taneja. When she was three, her family journeyed to Canada and started a life in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
Ritu was a dutiful daughter who assisted her parents when they attended university to start careers in Nova Scotia by helping them care for her two younger brothers (Rajiv and Ravi). She was a loyal friend who loved music and a good laugh. She loved to cook and took up photography.
Ritu was a hard-working student. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Science at Dalhousie and another Bachelor's degree in science to become a licensed dietician. She also earned a degree in human resources. Ritu worked for large corporations in customer care and human resources. She also helped care for people with disabilities and worked as a dietician for many years.
Ritu's life took a turn when she was diagnosed with a genetic disorder at the age of 37. Undeterred, she fiercely battled it, never letting it define her. Her resilience was a testament to her strength of character.
Throughout her battle, Ritu was never alone. Her mother and the dedicated staff at Northwood Ivany Place were always by her side, providing her with the care and support she needed. Their unwavering support was a testament to the strength of the community surrounding her.
