CARMICHAEL, Robert Walter, age 53, passed away at home on April 29, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. The only son of Jean (Aalders) and the late Walter Carmichael, he is survived by his wife, Ann (Harrington); children, Jonathan, Laura and Kathleen; sisters, Heather Allen (Richard) and Barb Pinsky (Norman).
Rob was a loving father and a respected member of the Nova Scotia legal community as a partner of Cox & Palmer Law Offices in Halifax. Robert was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1983, having completed a Bachelor of Law in 1982. He was a recognized expert in corporate and commercial law for the Oil and Gas and Energy sectors for most of his career and shared his special knowledge of the subject as a teacher at Dalhousie University Law School.
He had many professional affiliations during his career, including chair of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society Trust Account Committee; the Natural Resources and Energy law section of the Canadian Bar Association (Nova Scotia branch), and a Director of the Canadian Petroleum Law Foundation. He volunteered as a board member for Adsum House in Halifax for over 20 years.
In his leisure time he enjoyed relaxing at the cottage in Cape John and a good game of cards with his friends. He was an avid hockey player in his gentlemen’s league for many years. He was hardworking, thoughtful, thorough and yet competitive, as his professional colleagues and friends can attest.
