With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Robert (Bob) Forhan due to lung cancer. Surrounded by his loved ones, Bob went peacefully and on his own terms through MAID on June 12th, 2024. Bob was born on July 26th, 1941 in Halifax and was the son of John and Jean Forhan. His career started at Eastern Electric & Supply, and then in 1963 he moved on to work 33 1/2 years at MT&T where he met great life long friends whom, even after retirement, continued to gather for a meal together.
Bob married his childhood sweetheart Margaret (Peg) Lowe and had four children. Robert, Cheryl (Peter) Dixon, Scott (Erica) Forhan and Sandi (Barry) Sullivan.
While raising their own children, Bob and Peg were also wonderful foster parents to 25 children whom they loved and treated as if they were their own.
Shortly after he retired in 1995, he lost Peg due to an illness and met his current wife Mary Forhan (Smith) and Mary’s daughter Tammy (Kevin) Eisner.
Together, Bob and Mary made a home in Tantallon, where they lived out their remaining years together, enjoying their family and wonderful neighbours.
They loved to gather with friends, dancing and dining at the Sackville Legion and taking regular road trips, making memories. Bob had a green thumb and loved to be outside gardening and puttering in the yard and was so proud of the beautiful home they had created together and spoke about it til the end.
Bob was predeceased by his first wife Peg, son Robbie, granddaughter Victoria and great-granddaughter Bree.
Besides his wife and children, Bob leaves behind his sister Dale (Skip), grandchildren, Alyssa, Robert, Kayla, Bethany, Cassandra, Victoria, Emma, Alisha and Andrew and many great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff in Palliative care at the VG Hospital for the incredible care they provided to Dad. He referred to each and every one of you as his angels.
There will be a funeral service held at JA Snow Funeral Home in Halifax on Wednesday, June 19th at 10am.
Following Bobs wishes, there will be no reception, and burial will take place immediately following the service at St. James Anglican Church in Herring Cove.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
In the words of Dad. “Cheers to a wonderful family and a happy life”
