It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Carter Hines, 81, of Halifax. Bob left us on May 19, 2025, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born November 23, 1943, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Bob was the son of the late Sadie (Goodwin) and Carter Hines, and the brother of the late Patricia (Allan) Henderson.
Bob was a proud graduate of St. Francis Xavier and Dalhousie Law, never leaving the house without sporting his gold “X” ring. Following university, Bob practiced law in Lower Sackville for many decades, helping countless Nova Scotians with buying and selling their homes and planning their estates. Bob was adored by his clients and held in high regard by his colleagues.
Bob loved country music and dancing, horsing around and taking naps with his dogs, and fishing with his kids. He played hockey, was a runner, and practiced martial arts for most of his life (getting a black belt in karate when he was 58)! Although he was an active guy, his “happy place” was laying in the sun, with a cold rum and coke, and a Louis L’Amour book.
Bob loved to gab and laugh, and he made fast friends with everyone he met. Kids always got a hoot out of him. Bob’s true joy was his family. With his former wife Gail he had three children, Robyn (Iain), Devin (Beth) and Gelsey (Ryan). He was thrilled to be showered in grandkids late in life (William, Zinnia, Finnigan and Griffin). Also late in life, he was lucky to meet his loving partner, Deborah Thibault.
He had one heck of a life! Bob, Dad, Papa, you were loved so much and you will be missed forever!
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA.
