

REARDON, Robert Joseph "PUDDY"

Saddened by his passing peacefully on January 22nd, at Shannex Parkstone, his family mourns the loss of this proud SANTAMARIAN.
Born in Halifax, in 1929, he was a son of the late Francis and Geraldine (Martin) Reardon. Predeceased by brothers Frank, Gerald, Peter, George and sister Mary Nicol.
For his immediate family he was known as Robert, but for everyone else he was just "PUDDY."
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan Anderson; brother, Donald (Ann); his three children, Robert "Bob," Rossland, BC, Diane (Brian) Wride, Grand Barrechois, NB, and Janet (Harry), Halifax; his six grandchildren, Mitchell "Mickey" and Joanna Reardon, both of Vancouver, Chris Wride (Dawn), Jason Wride (Amy) both of Halifax, Christina and Julianne Walsh of Halifax; great grandchildren, Cohen, Rebecca & Liam; and many special nieces and nephews.
"Puddy" was educated in College Street School, Saint Ann's, Saint Mary's High School and College, and Saint Mary's University. Following graduation from Saint Mary's in 1961, he was inducted into the RCAF. After retirement he became Club Manager at Ashburn Golf Club.
Puddy had a lifelong passion for sports and excelled in many including, golf, hockey, football, curling, and baseball. He was a lifelong member of Ashburn G.C., and Chester G.C., and the Atlantic Seniors Golf Association. He was Chief Referee of the AUAA Football Referees Association for 25 years, and captain of the 1965 RCAF Champions.
Inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame, as a member of the Saint Mary's Junior Hockey Team, and the Saint Mary's University Sports Hall of Fame, as a Builder for hockey, football, golf, curling and baseball. In his youth he was a rower, though he could never learn to swim. He even enjoyed 6:00 AM tennis matches, while stationed in Ottawa.
Every one of his adored sporting events were watched on T.V., including his New York Yankees, Notre Dame, and of course the Toronto Maple Leafs, and his final sport to enjoy was riding his "John Deere" at their beloved family cottage at Queensland.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax 902-455-0531 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM on Monday, January 26th. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 27th in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Mumford Rd., Halifax. Donations to NS Arthritis Society or NS Alzheimer Society will be appreciated. Special thanks to the caring staff at Parkstone, during his brief time there.
