It is with great heartbreak and sadness that we announce the passing of our son, brother and partner in life, Roderick Joseph Matlock, who passed away suddenly in Calgary, Alberta on February 24, 2025 at the age of 28.
He was a lifelong resident of Stillwater Lake and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Roderick had recently set off on a journey from Nova Scotia filled with happiness and optimism to pursue a new job opportunity to better his life.
He was a graduate of Bay View High School (formerly Sir John A MacDonald High School) Upper Tantallon and a graduate of the Nova Scotia Community College, Aircraft Maintenance Technology Program and employed as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) for the past 7 years at Jazz Aviation in Halifax,N.S.
Roderick held a remarkable level of hands-on skill, resourcefulness and technical knowledge for a person of his age and could always be called upon to help with a project.
He held a dedicated and special love for his partner, Rachelle, and his family.
His friends held a very special place in his heart, many of whom he worked and played hockey with and/or met during high school. He was known by his friend’s parents to possess a keen politeness and kind nature and always made time to talk with them.
In his youth, Roderick participated in the TASA minor hockey program and Hammonds Plains Baseball program. He had a keen love of outdoor activities, such as camping, fishing, biking and exploring trails with his dog, Finnegan. In recent years, we saw Roderick hone his skills with a passion for cooking.
We will dearly miss his big smile, strong hugs, goofy personality, generosity, and how great of a “dog dad” he was to Finnegan.
He is survived by his partner Rachelle McDonald; Fall River, parents Bernard and Mary Matlock; Stillwater Lake, sister Jennifer Matlock; Timberlea and his amazing and lovable dog, Finnegan and many extraordinary aunts, uncles and cousins.
Roderick was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Roderick C. Chisholm and Margaret (MacGillivray) Chisholm and paternal grandparents Ignatius Matlock and Blandine (Arsenault) Matlock.
Cremation has taken place. The Celebration of Life will be held Friday March 7, 2025 4pm-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roderick’s memory may be made to the Dartmouth SPCA or charity of your choice.
