
Carleton, Ronald Leslie – Age 55 of Halifax passed away peacefully March 9, 2013 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax with family present after a bravely fought battle with Melanoma Cancer. He fought his illness to the end and was an active participant in research studies and trials for new Melanoma treatment.
Born in New Liskeard, ON., he was the son of late Leslie Carleton and Lillian (Lil) Carleton and was raised on the family farm in Hilliardton, ON. Ronald a devoted father raised his family in Englehart ON. He had several career interests as a paramedic, heavy equipment owner and operator and as an operator trainer. Ron’s career took him throughout Ontario and Western Canada. He was a very active individual and was a gifted athlete in long distance running, curling and hockey. His amateur hockey career lead him to play with the New Liskeard Cubs and Kirkland Lake Huskies Paramedic at Adams Mine, Kirkland Lake ON. Ron had a special passion for farming, which he pursued both in Ontario and most recently in Nova Scotia. For the past several years he made his home in Nova Scotia and had close ties to the community of Mabou (Hillsborough) Cape Breton.
Survived by his wife Viola Smith, daughter Ashlee (Marc Benoit) New Liskeard, ON., son Ryen (Teresa Sittaro) Pickering ON., Mother and father in law Sharon and Keith Smith Mabou N.S., sister and brother in law Joanne and David Smith Halifax, special friend George Gerogiannis and two grandchildren Luke and Eli.
Predeceased by his father Leslie Carleton.
Visitation will be from 7-9pm on Wednesday March 13, 2013 at JA Snow Funeral Home, Halifax, NS, B3S0E1 (455-0531). Memorial service to be held in Hillsborough, Cape Breton at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Melanoma Network of Canada.
