

Age 90, of Halifax, N.S. passed away peacefully at Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building on November 26, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Harvey Station N.B. he was a son of the late Stephen & Pearl Merrill & Step-mother Annie Merrill. Survived by sons Richard (Sharon Flemming) , Peter (Cynthia McCutcheon), daughters Kim (Richard Giles), Debbie (Mike Peters) , Tanya, Jackie (Gary Bruce) and his cherished nephew Blair Baxter; stepchildren Darlene, Heather, Glen and families; grandchildren Jeff, Chris, Matthew, Heather, Ryan, Sarah, Tim, Erin, Andrew, Justin, Britney, Braydon, Garrett, Jonathan; great grandchildren William Roy & Curtis Russell; brothers Austin and Elwood. He was predeceased by wives Gladys (Baxter) Merrill, Shirley (Jollimore) Merrill & son Jeffrey, brothers Howard, Fred, Frank, sisters Hilda (Dorcas) & Ina (MacLean). Roy enjoyed a distinguished career as a Firefighter & Platoon Chief with the DND Fire Department, from 1956-1990. On his days off, he enjoyed his moving business & his great friendship with Bryce Burgess of Burgess Transfer. Roy proudly served in the Canadian Merchant Navy during WWII from 1943-1949. Roy enjoyed boxing and was an avid boxer while aboard ship. He also loved to travel making his yearly trek across Canada to visit family members. Roy’s kindness and generosity will be fondly remembered by all his extended family and friends.
While at Camp Hill he looked forward to visits from his furry, four legged grandson “Archie”
