

Longard, (Winfield) Ruby Elaine, passed away at home peacefully with family at her side on July 7th 2013.
Born in Jordan Falls, Shelburne County on May 27, 1926. Ruby was the eldest child of Marguerite (Williams) and Donald Winfield.
Ruby married Edward Longard on August 4th, 1948, in Jordan Falls and together they raised their five children in Fairview.
She was a loving, understanding , generous and gentle lady who welcomed all to her home and who could always make a place for one more at the dinner table. She was the heart of the family and will be greatly missed by everyone. She will forever be a valuable role model for her family to follow. Some of her favorite times were with family at the cottage on Little Mush-A-Mush admiring sunsets from the dock.
Ruby was an active member of the Bethany United UCW (Gertrude Archibald Unit) and was honoured with a life membership. One of her joys was knitting over 200 teddy bears for the “Teddies for Tragedies” program. She also knit mittens for all the children in her life and was knitting prayer shawls up until she became ill.
Ruby is survived by her loving husband Edward; children Janet Sabean (Barry) of Mt. Denson; Shirley Zwicker (Barry) of Dartmouth; Donald (Donna) of Halifax: David (Sharon) of Halifax and Gary (Krista) of Oakland Lunenburg County. Her grandchildren who loved her so much are Greg (Krista), Michael (Jen) Andrew (Kelly), Sarah, Amy, Laura (Jason), Beth, Julie, Isaac and Hanna. Her four great grandchildren are Jenna, Alexander, Zachary and Lucas.
Ruby is survived by sisters Alice Walker of Lower Sackville and Kathy McDonald of Dartmouth,and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Bub (Roy), Jim and Stevie Winfield and sisters Vidie DeLancey, Mary Mouland and Middie Coughlan.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the Bayshore Home Health caregivers, VON and the Palliative Care Home team who were all very kind as they helped us look after Mum at home.
Visitation will be held at Snows Funeral Home on Tuesday July 9 from 6-8 pm. A celebration of Ruby’s life will be on Wednesday July 10 at 11 am in Bethany United Church officiated by Rev. Vincent Ihasz. Burial to follow at Camp Hill Cemetery.
