Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her husband John (Gosh), with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage; her children, Paul and Craig (Rachel); and her grandchildren, Daniel, Maya, Patrick, and Jacob. She was a devoted grandmother and she attended every milestone with joy and pride. She will also be deeply missed by her sister, June, nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Reverend Thomas and Lillian Evans; her sister, Phillis; and her brother, Carl.
Ruth was born in Catalina, Newfoundland, on June 21, 1940. As the daughter of a United Church minister, she lived in several rural communities throughout Atlantic Canada before settling in Lockeport, Nova Scotia, for her high school years. It was there that she met her husband John.
After high school, Ruth moved to Halifax to study nursing, which led to a progressive and fulfilling career. She worked for many years at the Old Halifax Infirmary, where she was admired for her compassion, gentle nature, and leadership. Ruth dedicated her life caring for others and touched countless lives through her kindness.
Ruth was devoted to her family, friends, and her faith. She was a member of Hillside United Church (formerly Rockingham United Church) for more than 55 years and was active on several committees through that time. The faith community was dear to her.
Ruth’s memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
