

Sheila was born on July 21, 1944 in Los Angeles, California to the late Samuel Cardone and the late Helen (Ryan) Cardone.
She was raised in New York City. She arrived in Halifax at the age of 17 to attend Mount Saint Vincent University for her BA. Following this, she received her Bachelor of Library Science from the University of Toronto. She worked for 30 years as a librarian – 2 years in Dartmouth and 28 years in other branches of Halifax Regional library, retiring in 1997.
During this time she became a proud Canadian citizen. Following her retirement she volunteered for 5 years in the YMCA Newcomers program assisting immigrants with English practice.
Duplicate bridge played a big part in Sheila’s life. She was very proud of having attained the rank of Silver Life Master. She also enjoyed dining out with friends, attending live theatre and classical music concerts. She is survived by longtime friends Sandra Wournell, Albert Dorey, Pierre Proulx, Barbara Burke, Linda Partington, Caroline Knickle Godfrey and Heather Joyce all of Halifax; Helen Hendry, Windsor, NS; Julia Callaby of Toronto; Sylvia Duffus of Edmonton; and cousins in Mississauga, Ontario. She was predeceased by longtime good friend Terry Paris.
A funeral service for Sheila will take place on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Snow’s Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive. Visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 with service at 2:00. Each event will have a limit of 75 people. Covid requirements of masking and proof of vaccination are required. The funeral will be livestreamed via the funeral home website.
