Shelley is survived by her beloved wife Susan Hubley, her children, Cory Hubley (Alex MacDonnell) and Gillian Stuart (James Stuart), and her cherished grandchildren, Wendy, Maisy, and Ryder—the lights of her life. Shelley’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Shelley’s love for her family was unwavering. Susan was the love of her life, and the bond they shared was evident to all who knew them. Shelly took great pride watching Wendy’s riding lessons, painting Maisy’s nails, and playing “puppies” with Ryder. Many days were spent at playgrounds, painting and colouring, and ending with cozy snuggles on Nanny’s lap, chatting about school and the latest games on their tablets. We will never forget our tradition of baking Christmas cookies every year. Which often ended up with Susan in the kitchen while Shelley, Gillian, and the grandkids were taste testing from the couch.
Shelley was predeceased and lovingly reunited with her infant son Benjamin (2001) and her dear mother Carrie Rector (O’Brien).
Shelley is also survived by her sisters Cathy Rector and Debbie Leblanc, her niece Laura Leblanc, and nephew Mark Leblanc. A proud nurse, Shelley graduated from the VG School of Nursing in 1983 and later earned her Bachelor of Nursing from Dalhousie University in 1989. Throughout her career, she worked with compassion and skill in both the ICU and Geriatrics units. In 2020, Shelley retired early to focus on what mattered most—spending time with those she loved.
Shelley had an endless love for animals and was rarely without a furry friend by her side, from her childhood dog Chippy to her old lab, Bella, to her most recent devoted companion KC, who never left her side.
Shelley will be deeply missed by all who knew her but forever remembered for her ‘awesomest’ kindness, big hugs and all the love she poured into her family and friends.
