
Shirley was born in 1929 in Cape Dauphin, Nova Scotia, and was the daughter of Roderick and Annie MacLean. She is survived by her brother, Roy (Gladys), and pre-deceased by brothers: Archie, Don, Bill, George, and sisters: Christene and Marguerite.
After graduating from high school in Sydney Mines, Shirley attended the Maritime Business College in Halifax. She then worked at the Chronicle Star. While playing badminton, she met Robert and they married in 1951.
Shirley was very involved in volunteer work with the Red Cross Women’s Corp, the Canadian Paraplegic Auxiliary and the Home for Independent Living on Oxford Street. She was dedicated to her family and will be lovingly remembered for her intelligence, resourcefulness and attention to detail. She cherished her time spent sailing on the Seaquester and with her beloved Bridge and Poker Club. Her love of gardening and completing New York Times crosswords were also great joys throughout her life. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert. She is survived by her daughters, Linda and Nancy (Chuck), and her grandchildren: Carolyn (Merv), Kathryn (Andrew), Alex, Nicholas and Sophie. She was a loving figure for her great-grandchildren: Austin, Nate, Parker and Noah.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Saturday, September 23rd, between 2:00pm and 4:00pm, with remarks at 3:00pm.
