

Stephen attended Westmount School, Queen Elizabeth High School and Dalhousie University and made an impression on everyone who knew him. In 1977, while at Dalhousie, he joined Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and took great pride in his position as House Manager for 4 years during which time he transformed the Fraternity House from old to new with his skill in carpentry and organization. He received the Silver Legion Award from the Fraternity in 2003 and was always an active and valued brother that others looked up to.
Stephen started his career in business at Lunenburg Foundry & Engineering as a draftsman and had many accomplishments. He was one of the first to recognize the value of heat pumps for their efficiency and in 1982 installed the first residential water source heat pump in Nova Scotia at his beloved cottage on Big Mush a Mush Lake. He helped established one of the first Apple Computer Dealerships in Nova Scotia in Lunenburg in 1983 and was a pioneer in computer technology and software on the South Shore.
Stephen had many business interests during his career and was the consummate salesman. He worked at DownEast Cellular and then BellAliant later in his career and ran a tight ship improving the company’s rental cell phone business. Stephen was an inspiration to work beside. He had a can do attitude that made good things happen in a hurry. An outdoor lover, Stephen had a passion for water skiing, boating, iceboating, skiing and snowmobiling. He participated in many exciting road trips to the US and other parts of Canada with his friends.
Stephen also received the St. John’s Ambulance Medal of Bravery for his role in rescuing a neighbor who almost drowned at Mush a Mush, the lucky man would not have survived without the assistance of Stephen and other neighbors. Stephen was an active member of the Mutual Benefit Society of Timberlea.
Stephen is survived by his wife Patricia; daughter, Emily; stepchildren, Kyle and Melanie Foster; loving mother, Carolyn; stepfather, Don Powell and brother, Michael. Special thanks to the staff of 7A VG Site Palliative Care for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 14th at 2pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531). There will be a private family committal at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in Stephen's memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
All those who knew and loved him will sadly miss him as he passed away so young in life……….
