

Mrs. Sushila Rai was born in Jullundur, India on November 18, 1929. She leaves behind a grieving husband, Yashwant Rai; children Ashwani, Anil, Rama and Uma; her daughters-in-law, Veena, Madhu and Anita; grandchildren Monica (Vineet), Naveen (Phoebe), Sasha (Kwesi), Vikram, Dylan, Kamal, Seth, Rohit and Ravi; two great granddaughters, Amara and Kimaya; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Rajan.
She immigrated to Canada in 1967. While in India she served as Headmistress of Secondary Girl’s School for eleven years. In Nova Scotia she worked as a teacher in a number of Halifax City and County Schools.
Mrs. Sushila Rai was the personification of humility and her only passion was to serve the community in one form or the other. She was very active in the Hindu Temple where she recited the holy Ramayana and sang hymns. Over the years she served on the VAS Board of Directors in different capacities. Her sweet nature and eagerness to serve others were immensely appreciated in the Community.
Funeral services at J.A. Snow Funeral home 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, Nova Scotia as per the following program:
A visitation from 4 to 5 pm in J.A.Snow Funeral Home on Saturday, January 14th. A service in the Chapel Hall in J. A Snow Funeral Home on Sunday, January 15th at 2 pm followed by cremation from 3-4pm.
