Sylvia was born in England June 16, 1937 and was the only child of Lily and John (Jack) Hadlington. She came to Canada (Montreal) in June 1978, and she married John Wicks at The United Church of Canada in Pelham, Ontario where a lot of friends and relatives attended the service and reception. John’s family immigrated to Canada at the end of the War.
Both Sylvia and John were employed at Pratt & Whitney in Longueuil, on the south shore of Montreal. They lived in P.E.I. after retiring and it was then discovered that Sylvia needed Kidney Dialysis. When she was approved for a kidney transplant, they moved to Halifax where she was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant in 2001.
She is survived by her son Nicholas and although he didn’t make the move to Canada, they kept in touch always.
She enjoyed her church, St. Peter’s Anglican at the corner of the Beddford Highway and Kearney Lake Road where she was a Licensed Eucharistic Minister, Member of the Altar Guild, Caring Group, and enjoyed visiting and delivering communion to the members of the congregation who no longer could attend church.
She was a member of The British Isle Club and The Halifax Branch of The Monarchist League, and a volunteer patient for medical students.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of The Victoria General Hospital for the tender loving care she received there on her numerous visits to see them, The Halifax Infirmary Hospital nursing staff, Dr. Franklin Vincent and Dr. Ryan Noemore.
Funeral service Saturday January 13, 2024, at 10:00 am. At St Peter’s Anglican Church, 3 Dakin Drive, Reverend Arran Thorpe presiding. Cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be returned to her son in England later.
